Raw Dehydrated Dog Food
Followers of the raw food diet for pets often find that it is a diet that can be difficult to follow. Some of the difficulties include not being able to provide fresh raw food everyday, not having enough variety to secure a well balanced diet, having extra preparation and extra clean up, and storage of the raw foods. Much like the innovation of having frozen raw dog food, pet companies that support feeding raw dog food have developed another method of feeding raw dog food that is easy to handle and hassle free! They invented raw dehydrated dog food!
What is raw dehydrated dog food?
It is understandable to be skeptical about this at first. After all, why would your dog want to eat dehydrated food? Will raw dehydrated dog food be good for your dog? Will it still get the benefits you're after? The answers will surprise you. Your dog will want to eat the food because it tastes good. The food is definitely good for your dog, and yes, your dog will still get the benefits of raw food!
How? Food science has invented ways in which raw food can be dehydrated while still maintaining its enzymes and nutritional components. This is because when the food is dehydrated, the internal temperature of the food is kept below 105 degrees Fahrenheit. This process is completely different from the process of preserving cooked dog foods or processed dog foods like kibble and canned foods. These commercial dog food processes destroy the enzymes, essential fatty acids, and other nutritional components that dogs need to stay healthy. Dehydration (when done properly) does not take away any of these important components of your dog's diet.
In the process of dehydration, no chemicals are used to preserve the food, but any parasites or fungi are killed. Since the food used is organic raw dog food, there are no hormones or additives in the food either. The food packages come as either single-meats, mixed-meats, and vegetables and meats, which is most of what your dog needs. The only thing raw dehydrated dog food cannot provide is raw meaty bones. All bones are removed from the meat before dehydration.
Feeding raw dog food means totally excluding all commercial dog foods from your pet's diet. This eliminates your pet's ingestion of processed grains, unnecessary supplements, and food additives which contain chemicals not suited to your dog's digestive tract.
How does it help raw feeding?
Raw dehydrated dog food is a good answer to those pet owners who are having problems keeping up with the raw feeding diet. First of all, raw dehydrated dog food is more affordable than raw dog food because it lasts longer and less is needed for each feeding (This will be explained further in the next paragraph.) Secondly, it is much easier to prepare because all you need to do is add water! Third, it is easy to store because it is compact. Finally, the packages are light weight which means they can be carried around without any problems, so you can take your dog on trips without worrying about what they'll eat.
How is it prepared?
Prepare raw dehydrated dog food by taking the dehydrated food, which resemble big pellets, and mixing it with warm water so that the food re-hydrates. Your mixture should be one-part food and one and a half parts water. Give the food about ten minutes to absorb the water and then serve it to your dog. Ideally, you should serve about two heaping tablespoons of food for every ten pounds of dog weight. This amount will give your dog enough energy and the daily nutrition it needs. Since the raw dehydrated food comes in packages of more than two teaspoons each, one package lasts several meals, making it cheaper than daily fresh raw food.
Don't worry about whether or not it will be appetizing to your dog. Most dogs enjoy eating the dehydrated food because it smells much better than most commercial foods. Just remember, if your dog has finished eating and there is still some food left in his/her bowl, throw this excess away, and make less next time. Never store food that has been left behind. However, you can make food in advance (up to two days) and store it in the refrigerator while waiting for feeding.
Raw dehydrated dog food is definitely something worth looking into, especially if you're having problems with the raw dog food diet. It may be a great way to compromise raw feeding with your own lifestyle!
